Itineraries in Verceia and surroundings

Welcome to Verceia,
a place rich in history, beautiful landascapes of the lakes and the mountains, itineraries, traditional flavours, events and celebrations, sport and much much more...

The first town in valchiavenna from those approaching from the south, Verceia looks out over Lake Mezzola, rendering this unique location fascinating, as well as offering possibilities for canoeing, swimming or the berthing of small boats.
Along the shoreline is a cycle path which is one of the most panoramic and which, for a certain distance, leads through the Pian di Spagna Nature Reserve, a fundamental resting spot for migratory birds.

EXURSIONS
From Verceia, one can reach the Valle dei Ratti.
Here there are two principal small towns which were one permanently inhabitated: Frasnedo, at an altitude of 1287 mt. with a small church dedicated to St. Mary of the Snows dating back to 1677 and with a bell tower from 1844, and Foppaccia with its small church built im 1762 in honour of Saint Anna.

A popular destination for both trekkers and mountain bikers is the Tracciolino: a route characterised by tunnels dug into the rock, and a decauville, the famous railway line for the transportation of goods.
The route was opened in the 1930s as a service line for the transport of merchandise and as a link between two dams, one in Val Codera and the other in Valle dei Ratti.
The Tracciolino route has a total length of approximately 14 Km., but at the moment only 8 of these have been rendered safe and can also be travelled by mountain bike.
