Summer 2022 in Chiavenna is characterised by the inauguration of the splendid walkway alongside the river Mera. The elevated, well-designed route leaves from the large free car park in Via Moro and heads upstream as far as the bridge of San Giovanni Nepomuceno, at the heart of the historic centre. It&´s a marvelous saunter, well worth a look particularly at dusk when it throws up a somewhat unexpected view of the noble mansions overlooking the river. An ideal invitation for couples, with its romantic overtones, especially after a dinner in one of the town&´s fine restaurants.

In summer Chiavenna provides a wide range of opportunities to enjoy aperitif and dinners, particularly in the open air. Just like Paris, Chiavenna is brought to life by all the outside tables that fill the piazza in the historic centre and nearby streets. A trend - that of life outdoors - that articulates a new model for tourism, restyled by the pandemic perhaps and which, following a few settling in seasons now seems destined to proceed successfully well after the end of the

emergency.
 

It was quickly grasped: tourists and residents love to spend time outdoors, especially in summertime. And as a result the owners of bars and restaurants have adapted, filling the public spaces available with tables, chairs and shading umbrellas. And everything adorned with colourful flowers and ornamental plants. A scenario which in the evening produces an engaging atmosphere, with extravagant lighting and vibrant conversation. Despite the attractions of the shop windows along the via Dolzino, there are those who prefer to remain comfortable at a table in the piazza, observing the constant toing and froing, chatting with companions or simply reading a good book.
 

Letting time take care of itself and any concerns alongside, and demonstrating happily that which Cicero celebrated "Nil agere delectat" ("it&´s delightful doing nothing"). Better still if sipping a decent glass of wine, accompanied by locally produced appetisers, or even a candle-lit dinner. A real boost for the spirits, shifting your attention to finer matters and creating a genuine feel-good vibe.
