Winter excursions organised with Andrea Grassi, astronomer and connoisseur of the most atmospheric places from which to appreciate the heavens and all its secrets are invariably a huge success. “I’ve always had an intimate relationship with the environment within which we live and in particular our very own snow-capped mountains. So the next step appeared a natural one: to organise initiatives that would combine that passion with my specialisation in Astronomical Studies. To this end for some years now I’ve been committed to demonstrating to locals and tourists alike the wonders that are all around and indeed above us. We usually find ourselves in the area at the foot of the Motta slopes at twilight, when daylight gives way to dusk and the first stars are pricking out. With Alpine Guide alongside bringing their vast experience of the territory, we can head off towards some of the most panoramic points within our expansive skiarea on snow racquets - available for hire in Motta.
Thus we climb together, not without exertion at times, but with some instructive pauses along the way both regarding the pathway we are tackling but also on the celestial concourse up above. Gently does it - and we finally reach the highest point of our planned excursion. From here our attention turns to the sky above, where we can appreciate the heavenly bodies more intimately thanks to a personal map provided and retained as a souvenir of the outing. Binoculars are recommended to make the outing even more special. Once the major constellations have been identified and duly photographed, we head towards the valley to celebrate our astronomical adventure using a much appreciated gastronomic formula in a local mountain refuge!”
