THE NEW APPROVED REGULATIONS FOR THE WATERFALLS AND RELATED ACCESS METHODS
Download pdf For the park hosting the Acquafraggia waterfalls in Piuro it&´s going to be a summer of innovation. The green area is to be newly defined, can be accessed through three openings and, during peak periods, will require a ticket which costs 3 euro. It was on Monday 17th May that the Lombardy Region approved the proposal by the Council Member for Agriculture, Food and Green Systems Fabio Roffi, regarding the management regulations for the natural landmark in Borgonuovo, Piuro.
Entrance tickets on weekends and in August
Under the new rules the park will remain open to the public every day. But from 1st June to 31st July, and from the 1st to the 15th September on public holidays like Sundays and the preceding day, and every day from the 1st to the 31st August, a ticket will be required to access the green park area. The ticket will cost 3 euro a person. Children under five and the elderly over 75&´s, as well as people with a range of disabilities will be exempt. All citizens residing in Valchiavenna will also have free access to the area. It will be necessary however to show an identity document at the entrance if you fall into the categories exempted from the ticket.
Reception staff will be in place at the three access points. Payment can be made using credit or debit cards or cash. Identification wristbands will be handed over as proof of payment.
Anyone entering the park without a ticket will face a penalty ranging from 50 to 500 euro. On days recognised in the payment calendar the park will be open from 8.30 through to 18.30.
More services and environmental protection
Near the area of the falls visitors will find automatic W.C. accessible for everyone. In the past illicit parking has caused significant problems for local residents. For this reason the Municipality of Piuro confirms that it is absolutely forbidden to park vehicles along the streets and outside the dedicated parking areas. Video surveillance systems will be in operation, as well as local police patrols in order to ensure correct access to the parking areas and the park itself.
A further problem that has emerged in the past has been that of barbecues. It is now forbidden to enter the park with tables, chairs and picnic equipment in general and to engage in any type of party or event not authorized by the managing body. The itinerant sale of any type of goods is also prohibited within the park and also throughout the Borgonuovo district.
Dogs are allowed entry as long as they are on a leash. Bicycles must be conducted by hand. Access to motorcycles and cars is prohibited.
Within the park there are bins for the separate collection of waste materials. In the village of Borgonuovo itself you can find plenty ecological sites for the discharge of waste in appropriate receptacles. "We want to promote this natural landmark so that it is fully appreciated" declared Davide Trussoni, President of the Comunità Montana "with guidelines aimed at making the area ever more attractive and usable in total safety. Tourism post-Covid will prove increasingly popular and will pay much attention to naturalistic opportunities that our mountain territories can offer, and we must supply all the necessary devices to take full advantage of our attractions".
A new kiosk and cultural events
In the coming weeks the new kiosk situated on the Sant&´Abbondio side will be inaugurated, constructed by the municipal administration of Piuro, and to be managed by the Legnone Brewery. During the summer the same administration will promote events dedicated to literature and cinema within the park itself. Information on all these initiatives will be published on infopiuro.it.
