Valchiavenna has lots to offer the whole year round with its cornucopia of seasonal colours and scents. You can move all the way from the lake up to the high peaks dominating unspoilt landscapes amid nature as varied as it is magnificent.

Valchiavenna in Winter

Experience the thrill of over 60km of runs within Skiarea Valchiavenna, at Madesimo and Campodolcino. From November until late spring there are six unforgettable months in which to fully enjoy the mountains, be it the exhilaration of downhill or the calm and silence along the 20km of cross country trails. Valchiavenna also offers ice-skating, off-piste skiing and outings on snow racquets.

Culture

The valley boasts a natural beauty, accompanied by a wealth of artistic gems and a range of traditional crafts. It’s a veritable open-air museum and a stroll through and around Chiavenna itself reveals a rich history: ornately decorated mansions, piazza graced with beautiful fountains and quite exceptional architecture. Whether in town or on walks within beautiful natural parkland you can enjoy the traditions of a valley which boasts centuries of history allied to the movement of people heading up and across the mountain passes to the heart of Europe.

 

Itineraries

There are routes to suit all tastes and capabilities from spring through to autumn either on cycle paths or hiking along the historic transit routes of Valchiavenna, Val Bregagalia and Valle Spluga; and of course in the winter there‘s Skiarea Valchiavenna in which to immerse yourself whether on downhill ski or ski racquet excursion.

Sports and Recreation

Valchiavenna has a whole host of recreational opportunities for visitors. Naturally there are playgrounds and fun for the little ones; trekking, and history and culture abound along the ancient pathways of the Via Spluga and Val Bregaglia and there are ample hiking routes and a large network of cycling trails for family outings. In short – something for every age, shape and size.

From local craft outlets to the fine boutiques in Chiavenna’s historic centre there’s a splendid range to suit every taste whether it be typical local produce, clothing, gifts or jewellery.

Specialities

Mountain biking, cycling, trekking, Nordic walking, skiing, rock climbing, fishing and canyoning - an almost endless list of opportunities for visitors to the valley throughout the year. Culture, arts and crafts complete the circle and mean that tourists have ample choice during their visit to Valchiavenna, But whether you choose to be particularly active or prefer a more relaxed holiday – shopping remains ever-popular.
